Seven years ago, we traveled to France to pick up our eldest daughter upon the completion of her semester abroad.  We had never been to France before, and the fact that our daughter is bilingual and was able to act as interpreter greatly enhanced our time abroad.

Our trip involved an inspiring time on the beaches of Normandy, a day trip to Mont Saint Michel, a visit to the famous tapestry in Bayeux.  Culminating in Paris, we spent the last four days traipsing around our daughter’s favorite haunts, bars, museums.  And even though I was not actively producing any works of fiction at that time, I fulfilled the quintessential writer’s cliche when I found myself alone in a Paris cafe sipping espresso while jotting down thoughts and impressions in my travel journal.

So in this “Time of COVID,” I am thinking of Paris today and looking forward to a time when #WheresRebekahWriting will be more than a virtual hashtag.

Today is our eldest daughter’s 28th birthday! And with the exception of when she was studying abroad in Paris and doing humanitarian work in Cambodia, we have always spent some portion of her day together. Because we are “staying home” due to COVID, my husband and I have to wish her Happy Birthday from afar. But we are confident that her husband and our youngest daughter (who lives with them) will make sure she has the happiest of birthdays possible.

The only place I wish I was writing today is in her cozy little sun room.

Last September, my husband and I spent some time in Seattle. While he was at his conference meetings, I spent time writing in various places around the city. That sparked an idea, and since then, I’ve posted pictures of where I’m writing. For the past six weeks, I haven’t had too many interesting pictures to share other than various rooms and places around my home. So, with a little bit of creative photo editing, I’ve decided to add pictures of places I wish I was writing… places I’ve visited and places that are on my bucket list. Hope you enjoy my virtual #wheresrebekahwriting. [Check out my hashtag on FaceBook and Instagram for previous posts.]

A shout out to my dear friends who spend the winters in Key West but were unable to come home because of COVID-19. They miss their daughter, son-in-law, and that precious little granddaughter. If I could, I would be here with you sharing another Key West sunset. And I certainly would NOT be writing right now. But until better days, this will have to do.

Stay safe! And Stay Home!
